CENTRAL SERENGETI · TANZANIA
Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
The Four Seasons Safari Lodge sits in the heart of the central Serengeti, built around a waterhole that elephants, buffalo, and other game visit through the day. Seventy-two rooms and suites and five villas step along a ridge, each with local textiles, four-poster beds, and an open-air sun deck angled at the plains. An infinity pool faces the savannah, a discovery centre tracks the migration and the ecosystem, and the whole lodge is designed so that the Serengeti is always in view, often without your having to leave your balcony. It is the most refined and full-service base from which to explore the park.
Why it's on the list
This is the lodge for travellers who want the Serengeti without giving up comfort. The waterhole is the masterstroke: a constant, close-up wildlife show from the pool, the bar, and many of the rooms, on top of the game drives out across the plains. The central location puts you in reach of the year-round resident wildlife and, in season, the great migration, while the Four Seasons service, the spa, the pool, and the family-friendly facilities make it as much a destination as a safari camp. For a first Serengeti trip or a family safari, it is hard to better.
How to get there
Guests fly in. Light aircraft connect the lodge to Tanzania's hubs at Arusha, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam via the Seronera Airstrip, from which it is around a 45-minute game-drive transfer to the lodge. The lodge coordinates the flights and transfer with your itinerary, and the drive in from the airstrip is often a safari in itself.

Dining
On the property
Dining is on the lodge across several venues. Kula's serves all-day dining and the pre-game-drive breakfast buffet, Nuru offers an African-inspired menu alongside international favourites, and the Boma Grill gathers guests around an open firepit for a Maasai-style feast under the stars. Bush breakfasts and private dining out on the plains are easily arranged.
Nearby
Dining is on the resort. The lodge is deep in the central Serengeti with no local restaurant scene, and all meals are part of the safari stay.
What guests say
Guests describe the location as spectacular and the waterhole as a highlight in its own right, with comfortable, well-appointed rooms and the polish and facilities of a full Four Seasons resort. Families particularly value the pool, the space, and the discovery centre. The note that recurs is one of character: this is a larger, more resort-style lodge, so travellers seeking the intimacy of a small, owner-run bush camp should weigh that, while those who want comfort, scale, and service in the middle of the Serengeti will find exactly that.
