MALOLO ISLAND · MAMANUCA
Likuliku Lagoon Resort
Likuliku is the first and only resort in Fiji with authentic over-water bures, thatched-roof retreats raised on stilts above a turquoise lagoon. Adults-only and intimate, the resort has forty-five bures in all, ten of them over the water, the rest set along the beach and gardens of Malolo Island. The over-water bures open directly to the lagoon by private steps, so the house reef is ninety seconds from your bed. It is the classic Fijian over-water fantasy, executed with real respect for the island's culture and craft.
Why it's on the list
If the over-water bure is the dream, Likuliku is the only place in Fiji that delivers it for real, and the adults-only setting keeps it calm and romantic. The lagoon is sheltered and swimmable, the food consistently exceeds expectations even though meals are included, and the scale is small enough that the staff know you by the second day. For honeymoons and couples' escapes, the combination of over-water living and quiet exclusivity is exactly the point.
How to get there
Likuliku is on Malolo Island in the Mamanuca group, reached by a 10-minute helicopter flight from the main island or a speedboat transfer of around 45 minutes from Denarau Marina, a short drive from Nadi International Airport. The resort coordinates the transfer with your flights.

Dining
On the property
Meals are included, and the kitchen is widely held to be a cut above the usual all-meals island offering, with an inventive chef turning out genuinely refined dishes. The Masima Island bar, set out in the lagoon and the arrival point for guests coming by boat, becomes the social heart at dusk for cocktails and traditional performances.
Nearby
Dining is on the resort. Likuliku is a one-resort island with no local restaurant scene, and meals are part of the stay.
What guests say
Guests are most effusive about the over-water bures and their immediate lagoon and snorkel access, the romance of the adults-only setting, and the food, which many call exceptional given that it is included. The warmth of the staff and the sunsets recur throughout. Worth knowing: the over-water bures are limited and book out far ahead, so reserve early, and the no-under-16 policy makes this a couples' and honeymoon resort rather than a family one.
